Etching Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is one of the most appropriate materials for photo chemical etching process. Since its chemical composition is resistant to acid corrosion, which will not harm the metal properties, the surface is smooth and easy to achieve tight tolerance.

The contained chromium when exposed to air, it will create surface oxide which makes stainless steel corrosion-resisted. It is widely used in many types of industrial parts.

The metallic shinny looking: etching does not scratch the beautiful appearance, not sharpen the edge. Etching stainless steel is widely used as exterior parts, such as speaker grill, decorative inlay for car, and plate. 

Easy to be formed: stainless steel is a ductile metal with different hardness grades, that means customers have optional choice for their parts.

High strength: the composition nickel increases its strength, which is required by the space and vehicle components with high demand in withstanding force and resisting structural fatigue.

Temperature-resistant: this metal contains stable property for low and high temperatures, which is a necessary feature for the parts exposed to heat changes.

Easy welding: some parts are necessary to be welded, stainless steel can be welded easily.

Stainless Steel Properties

There are many grades of stainless steel, different grades different properties. The added additional metal elements decide the properties. The most common series used in the etching market are the following types.

martensitic stainless steel: 410、414、416、416(Se)、420、431、440A、440B and 440C, magnetic, whose mechanical properties can be adjusted by heat treatment. They are mainly used for steam turbine blades, tableware and surgical instruments and so on.

Austenitic stainless steel: the 300 series, with austenitic structure at normal temperature. It is non-magnetic, formable and good performance to high temperatures. 304 Is the most common type for etching.
